Nothing makes us happier than greening thumbs--and on a warm morning in late May, we joined the students and staff of PS 110 for "Green Science Day" to do just that. From plant parts to transplanting, the Growing Chefs gardeners and nutritionists spent the morning with visiting classes potting up basil plants. A perfect kid-friendly herb, we smelled and imagined future recipes together while talking about plant and soil care for apartment and home gardens. How delightful to hear many of the students had gardens of their own, from roses to tomatoes!
Partnered with SolarOne and Halcyon Kitchen, the event was hosted by Broadway Stages. At the end of the morning, excess soil was generously donated by Stages to Red Shed Community Garden, and basil plugs to Eagle Street Rooftop Farm.
